Commercial Attaché
Stephen Anderson is Commercial Attaché at the U.S. Embassy Bangkok. Qualified in Japanese and Mandarin Chinese at the Foreign Service Institute, Anderson previously served in Asia at Embassy Beijing, Consulate Nagoya and Embassy Tokyo.
During his government tenure at U.S. Department of Commerce with the International Trade Administration, Anderson managed units for health care and life sciences industry, the Internet and telecommunications, and other key sectors that impact overseas trade and foreign investment from Europe and Asia.
As an academic prior to joining the U.S. & Foreign Commercial Service, Anderson earned his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and had tenured teaching and research positions in Japan. As manager in cross-cultural settings, Anderson has served as acting Deputy Chief of Mission in Ireland, acting Head of Commercial Section in Thailand, and in various diplomatic and academic settings overseas.
Since 2016, Anderson has a four-year assignment in Bangkok that now includes responsibilities to cover the markets of Cambodia, Laos and Thailand, and to serve as Deputy to the Minister-Counselor in ASEAN.
